Wine Cabinet – AFTER

I saw the picture of a beautiful wine cabinet in the Pottery Barn catalog – one of my favorite stores.  However, I knew it was way beyond my reach so I decided I had to get creative and do it on a budget.  I wanted a small cabinet that would fit perfectly on the wall in my dining room right next to the kitchen. It would be convenient for my quests to be able to help themselves to the wine and glasses.  I was looking for a cabinet with shelves, glass doors and full size drawer. I needed doors on the bottom for storage of wine an ice bucket and extra dishes, etc. I started searching at my usual thrift stores.  I finally found it on Craig List.  Once a china cabinet now becomes a beautiful wine cabinet.  With a little bit of an imagination and creativity it added chic charm to our formal dining room.  It looked good and it worked surprisedly well. image image image imageThere are three shelves for showing my vintage decanters and wine glasses. I can also display my collection of Paris plates some good wine books and special gift pieces.  The bottom shelf and drawer are perfect for setting up for parties and Holidays.  I put silverware and napkins in the drawer along with a round black granite tray for serving cheeses and meats.  Black  and green olives go in the black dishes.  What I like best is it is always set up . All I have to do is open the cabinet and drawer fill it up  with yummy sides and let the party begin. When my guest arrive I extend a warm welcome and take them into the dining room and wine cabinet where they can help themselves to the the food and refreshment.  My wine cabinet is a great piece to have in my dining room.  It doesn’t take up a lot of room but is still very functional.  I have tried to improvise with other furniture like my buffet but the wine cabinet has been a really good investment and it looks and works so well. This also frees up space on my buffet and table for main dishes and desserts.  A well planned party is always so much more fun for the quests as well as the hostess. With the Holidays approaching I am always brainstorming for creative ideas and of course checking out the magazines and Pinterest.  Entertaining can be so much fun preparing for the event and then fully enjoying it upon its arrival. When I plan a party especially a big one I always outline it in a notebook so I  can see what I need to do step by step.  The notebook becomes my bible that is with me at all times. A well organized planner would also be extremely helpful as well.   Will you be entertaining for the Holidays?  Let me know if you have any questions or need some suggestions.  You can contact me at http://www.andwineknot.com or email me at dana2fly@comcast.net.
